An Indigo Morning Homebred
For Hall of Famer Eternal Phantom's firstborn, we wanted something that would resonate with the depth of her pedigree, a horse that would take on the dirt classic races with aplomb. Star Thoroughbreds' Sunset Crusade was the obvious choice, hailing from the proven sire and Breeding Hall of Fame inductee Akuma Battlecry (sire of G1 horses Euphoria's Warrior, Lusitania's Soldier, War Cry, Battle Wings (Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies/Acorn Stakes/Coaching Club American Oaks winner) as well as a proven racehorse himself (winner of Kentucky Derby, Breeders Cup Classic, etc.). Sunset Crusade brings pedigree, class, and fire to the match with Eternal Phantom, whose already proven lines would cross best with a proven pedigree in turn. Seeing as Eternal Phantom won the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders Cup Classic herself (among many other accolades), this was a logical match. Aristaeus is the only horse by Sunset Crusade in the game. Other foals out of Eternal Phantom include Head Trip, Poltergeist, and Phantasmagoria (as of Y19).
Jockey: Timothy Andrews
Last Ran: July Week One Leg Type: Variable Aris does as he wants, when he wants, and that goes for the track. His jockey better be on board for what he wants to do because there is no arguing with him. Aris looks cool and collected on the track. He walks around the paddock and warms up as though it's a walk in the park. He'll load as though it's beneath him, but when he breaks from the gate every step of the race is controlled by him. If he wants to run up front, that's where he'll be. If he wants to stalk, he'll moderate his pace until it's time to strike. If he wants to hunt and close from behind, be ready to watch him do so. Aris can adapt to any situation, and he has naturally tactic speed that is suited for any situation. Regardless of his initial position, Aris knows how to close the deal. He knows that once his rider asks him to go, it's time to go, and he'll put his full effort forward. Aris chooses to win, every time. He likes to fly across that line in first place. It suits him to win as it is his way of satisfying himself. Aris is perhaps at his most willful and outwardly aggressive when he is at the track. Though he appears cool and collected during races, during workouts it's another matter entirely. He loves to run and being denied the opportunity to run as he likes during a workout frustrates him. Aris has no problems turning in bullet fast workouts. The main issue is that he can never take a workout easy. Aris loves to work out and be active, and if he's asked to do nothing but breeze he'll force some speed into what he's doing some way or another. Timothy learned early on that Aris doesn't take no for an answer during workouts and will run as he pleases. If he wants to follow the course of action, cool. If he doesn't, then Timothy knows what he'll be dealing with - a blazing fast horse disobeying his cues and lighting the dirt on fire. Y16 Encouragement Award

My way or the highway
Aristaeus, first son of Eternal Phantom, is a whole other type of horse. He is not distant like Incognito; he is not arrogant like Prometheus; he is, above all else, a slave to his own desires. Aris is willful to the max. None can make him bend to their will. None can control him without his consent. Aris is like a powerful wandering warrior. He will engage in the fights he chooses to, and once engaged Aris will likely emerge the victor due to his force of will. Aris is prone to violence as a way to achieve his ends. He has a terrifying way of looking at somebody just before he makes his move. You can almost see the calculations running through his brain, the evaluation of his odds of getting away with something. Luckily, Aris does not actively seek out fights. As long as he is left to his own devices and is not pushed to do something he does not want to do, he is carefully obedient, but the person or horse he is dealing with must never forget that Aris's will is the ultimate authority in any situation. He will put up with humans, he will put up with equines, but only until he wants to do something else. The only power he will bend to is a will greater than his own. Timothy Andrews is the only human he's measured as worthy to ride and groom him. Aris does not make friends, but in the case of Timothy he's made a partner.
Aris is smart and calculating in a way reminiscent of Coincidence. He appears passive at first glance, but there is never a moment when Aris is not conscious of everything around him. Aris will quickly resort to aggression only if something stands in his way, but typically his path runs parallel to what we ask of him. At the barn, Aris is just like a regular horse. At the track, Aris is cool and collected. He is deadly when he wants to be and willfully determined when at his best. He never displays arrogance but it is not difficult to tell how the high the colt's opinion of himself is when he coldly ignores others and chooses to remain in his own world, emerging only to assert his authority, independence or dominance as it suits him. |
