Last Ran: August Week One Leg Type: Front Runner Ash is a showman on the racetrack. He it glitzy and powerful, attracting eyes from the minute he steps onto the dirt. He likely secretly loves all of the attention he receives, but outwardly presents regal indifference to the world. The apple hasn't fallen from the tree with this one; he is a front runner just like his dam and typically seeks to lead from gate to wire. He breaks the fastest, accelerates the fastest, and before any other horse can have a say typically secures the lead by a length or two. This colt's high cruising speed and mountains of stamina mean he can take that lead, comfortably maintain it well over a mile, and still have the energy left to draw off to win by daylight before the wire looms. This is a horse that loves winning in style and sees challenges to his lead as personal affronts, relishing turning back those who thought they could challenge him. While he is not a suicidal front runner and will back off if challenged to go faster than he deems acceptable, one can count on this horse to be near the front and to bring it with everything he has, as the win is something he feels he deserves in deference to his inherent superiority. Ash is special also for his complete tolerance of all weather conditions; give him a dirt track in any weather, and Ash is completely unaffected. Perhaps being born on the night of a storm had its benefits...? |
embody the storm's powerAshkenaz was born on the night of a storm. He was hotly anticipated, hailing from generations of careful breeding, and the drama of his birth did not disappoint. It was rumored that Ash stood up at the moment of loudest thunder and took his first steps in time to the patter of raindrops on the stable roof. Ash complements the allure and drama of his birth with a personality that rivals the force of the storm he was born in the middle of. He is physically powerful and uses that to his advantage in intimidating all horses, his age or older, big or small, asserting regal command with a look that just blazes. He is not a vocally expressive horse, preferring instead to let his teeth, ears, and eyes do his talking. Ash quickly became the alpha of his corner of the paddock but typically prefers the solitude of his stall, where he can look out over the barn he views as his kingdom with nothing short of regal arrogance in his gaze. Ash enjoys the respect he commands and cannot be forced to do anything against his will. He will get along with anybody, but they must treat him in precisely the right way. He enjoys being groomed daily, and it is perhaps only under the stroke of a brush that this horse relaxes his regal, intimidating posture and seems like a normal horse. Otherwise, Ash plays the part of main character in his own play and expects all the respectful attention such a role commands.
