Jockey: Timothy Andrews
Last Ran: July Week Four Leg Type: Variable Dob is the hardest horse to handle on the track of his entire crop. He simply gets so excited at everything going on! Every time somebody cheers or a horse makes a noise, Dob swings his head around to investigate and would likely pull both the people attending him over to get a closer look if they weren't planted so firmly on the ground. Dob is a horse that needs blinkers on the track to assemble any sort of focus. His strength made him the perfect match for Timothy Andrews, whose fine degree of intuition with his mounts also made him perfectly suited for Dob. Dob requires a lot of people to handle him from paddock to gate, but once the gate opens, well, the job gets somewhat easier. Dob is the horse that can run anywhere you place him in the field provided you get him to focus. He'll be happy to lead, happy to be just behind the pace, happy to go at the end of the race - wherever you place him, Dob is happy as long as he is running. He runs best in a medium traffic situation, so if the pace up front is full of front runners Dob will drop back to a stalking position. No pace means Dob will take the lead and hang with it. He is easier to control when in flight because for once he is completely engaged in what he is doing and can't be distracted, especially with the blinkers. Timothy considers Dob to be one of the more difficult horses to ride in the barn, but also the most rewarding. The horse exudes class for a reason and it is easy to see the legacy he has inherited in action when he is in full flight over the turf. |
a king who doesn't know he's kingDobhailen was bred to be classy and he exudes it. He has the conformation of a regally bred individual, but Dob gives off the impression of a horse that doesn't know his own strength. He has a tendency to underestimate just how strong the shove of his head against somebody's back is or just how fast he's going versus how fast his rider wants him to go. Not the brightest crayon in the box, Dob is a horse the staff finds adorable for his antics, precisely because half the time he is as surprised by the result as the staff are. For instance, Dob will purposely knock over a bucket, but will then be just as scared and startled by the sound as his humans. It's as though he doesn't know that yes, the bucket's going to make a sound once knocked over, even though he's done it more than a few times and should know by now. Despite his tendency to miss the obvious and startle at the slightest of things, Dob is an entertaining horse to be around. He's not a bitey, angry type, instead content to be taken care of and to live his life to the fullest horsey extent possible. He looks classy but acts like a child, fussing about with the hay in his stall until it's in the perfect place and absolutely despising getting any of that straw in his mane, where he can't reach it. He is affectionate, but surprisingly territorial - touch anything in his stall, get too close, and Dob will suddenly realize he has strength and use it. He's not a horse that gives a look to make others back off - instead, he whinnies and neighs loudly, adds a squeal or two, and gets the other horse to back off simply because they're going deaf from the racket he creates.
