Last Ran: July Week Three Leg Type: Mid-Pack Krat is actually not a major fan of the racetrack, though he does love the race itself. All of the action and tension tends to work him up to being rough on his handlers, hence the cotton fluff in his ears to drown out some of the stimulation. He makes a beautiful picture on the track, all flowing muscle and power, and tends to attract eyes whether he's acting up or not, and then again based on his parentage. Toughness flows in Krat's blood, and from the minute the gates open it shows. This is a horse that goes wherever in the field the most horses are - usually somewhere not completely off the pace, but not up front burning it out, either. He typically plays the mid-pack game, biding his time and threading his way around horses as he pleases. Krat can take a hard knock or a stumble and come back as though nothing happened at all - such is his stubbornness and his strength. As the furlongs click off, Krat is generally moved to the outside of the field, picking up as the other horses too, and then finally unleashed around the final turn. Krat accelerates like his famous mother Sillenia did - all quiet motion one moment, furious speed the next. Krystal Yhate has often commented that his explosive run is incredibly similar to his dam's and was thrilled to land the ride on the son of the mare that won four Breeders' Cups and ascended into the Hall of Fame for her. After guiding older sister Melusine through her final season, Krystal is absolutely working forward to working with this one. |
giving toughness a new nameKratos is a rough-and-tumble kind of horse who cannot be deterred by any situation he comes across. He possesses the bull-headedness of both his sire and his dam as well as the innate toughness to back it up. There's no horse tougher than Krat in his crop; he has the muscular build, the strength in his hind quarters, and the willingness to use that muscle to get what he wants. Though typically easy to please and rarely in a bad mood, Krat can be quite the mood if he's having a bad day. The colt can handle almost anything you throw at him - hurricane force winds, destructive mud turning the dirt into a slog and the turf into a soft mess, a field of three or a field of ten - but he absolutely cannot handle loud noises. They tend to overstimulate him and cause him to puff out his chest and give anybody handling him a rough time, which is why his ears are typically stuffed with some fluff at the track - it's the only way to keep him calm. Krat is the kind of horse who isn't violent - he will never lash out at you or bite you - but his version of stubbornness is expressed in him planting himself on the ground and refusing to move or refusing to acknowledge a situation in front of him entirely. Krat cannot be deterred when he's in one of his moods. He just needs to be waited out. When not in a mood, Krat is an almost affectionate horse, willing to nudge at you for an extra treat or lift his hooves to be cleaned when asked. He is easy-going and the epitome of a normal horse - no major temper tantrums, just contained power and class.
