Last Ran: August Week One Leg Type: Front Runner/Closer Sir Ren is an interesting one on the track. He looks ordinary in the post parade and in the paddock, but he is completely unique in the way he runs a race. On race day, Sir Ren is uptight and feisty, eyeing his competition but otherwise quiet and easy to handle. He will tolerate a handler on his way around the track during warm-ups and will load without a problem. When the gates open, he will either be running at the front or at the back. This is usually a decision up to Sir Ren and his mood that day. The position he chooses is a function of how fast his break is and where he finds himself within the first few seconds. A quick break finds this colt smoothly leading the field in front. He has an easygoing, relaxed stride and mannerism that makes him well suited for running at the front while avoiding speed duels. If breaking slowly, Sir Ren drops away and bides his time to the final turn. When asked to run, he gives it his all, but otherwise spends the race gradually and calmly picking up speed. Nothing seems to phase this horse on the track. He is an incredibly easy one to ride, doing everything by himself with minimal outside direction. It's more like his jockey is there to help if something completely unexpected happens. |
beware of the tricksterSiren's Secret is just like his mother - happy, keen to go and work, intelligent, stubborn at times, yet somehow always somewhat goofy. The bay colt is known for sticking his head out of his stall to lip at anything that passes by or to neigh at things he'd like to lick but which are out of range. He is never aggressive and has never caused serious harm to anybody, as everything he dies is in a funny, not-serious manner. Sir Ren, despite his goofy interior, definitely has a mind of his own. He will do what he's going to do - a common trend in this year's crop - and there's honestly nothing you can do about it. He decides the pace he wants to work at and thus requires a flexible, fun-minded jockey who doesn't mind what he does. If he doesn't get to have his way, Sir Ren will either refuse or take his own sweet time doing what is being asked. Thankfully, Sir Ren rarely exercises this stubborn side and is typically happy to do what is asked of him. He is a friendly horse, somewhat clumsy in addition to goofy, and it is not unusual for him to accidentally bump into things and step on unsuspecting humans' feet whenever he's out and about. Sir Ren acts innocent the entire time, typically adopting a look of "sorry, please forgive me", but we all know the colt's tricks, and sometimes he event admits to it with a not-guilty look of self-amused pride in his actions.
