An Indigo Morning Homebred
Tisiphone, quite simply, was bred to be classy. Her dam, Hall of Fame inductee Lynara's Kingdom, won 28 races in her career including the Starshine Sprint, Tick Tock Sprint, and the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile. She had demonstrated flexibility at both the sprinter and the miler distances, and that's what attracted us to Mastermind for her first foal. Mastermind is Battle Brook's premier Hall of Fame inductee, by the well-known Hall of Fame sprinting sire Speed Demon and out of the blue hen Hall of Fame mare El Sol Del Mar. He won 32 races in his career, including the Breeders Cup Juvenile Sprint, Breeders Cup Dirt Sprint, Breeders Cup Dirt Mile, Summer Dawn Treader Cup, and the Dubai World Sprint. Such class, we thought, could be best paired with a classy and equally flexible mare. Mastermind has produced a slew of excellent foals including Cataclysmic, Silent Game, Masquerade, Turbulence, and Catastrophe. Lynara's Kingdom is also the dam of Lawbreaker and Divided Kingdom. True to form, Tisiphone has inherited the distance/surface flexibility (as well as class) of her pedigree.
Jockey: Kylie Silverstar
Last Ran: July Week Three Leg Type: Variable Tis is almost too smart for her own good. From the start, Tis demonstrated an ability to adapt to all racing styles - she was simply too smart to prefer just one. From the moment the gates open, Tis is out and moving, but her position in the race is completely arbitrary. She might grab that lead and go; she might ghost behind the leaders and breathe down their necks; she might even shut down and then explode at some point in the backstretch. All of this depends on so many different factors it would be difficult to list them all. Above all, Tis aims to win when on that track. She is just a touch more alert and quiet on the track, which is alarming considering how alert she is off of it. Nothing surprises her and nothing gets her off her game. During the race, she aims to win, and by open lengths if possible. She is all about flashing her class during a race. Winning by a nose is unacceptable - the margin is too small to proclaim her the winner. Tis loves to dominate the race, prefers it even. She will face down any horse in that stretch and put as much heart on the line as she wants to in order to secure that victory. Winning tastes sweet to this horse. The prologue to her victory is played out in the paddock, when she examines everything around her and catches eyes due to her athletic build; the finale is when she flashes home three or more in front and still pouring it on. Tis has the smarts and the speed to back up her leadership and both play out on the track, every time. |
Watch for the fangsTisiphone is a dangerously alluring horse. At first glance, the pretty chestnut filly seems like an absolute sweetheart. She plays well with others, standing still for the groom, hanging out with the herd sociably. But watch out. Tis always has a plan. There is always some hidden motive behind standing still for the groom, being nice to other horses. Tis knows what she gets out of being nice to humans - an easier, less complicated life where she is freer to exercise her spirit in other ways. And with horses, they either instinctively respect the filly with the sharp eyes or learn to respect her through the course of their interactions. Tis is a mare that proclaims her alpha status quietly but firmly. The most distinct trait about her is her cunning and intelligence. Few things get past Tis, and those that do are learned quickly or discarded with an arrogant flair of "Who would care about that anyway?". Tis, like her sire, does not have much of a relationship with humans. The only one she even shows a shred of respect for is Kylie Silverstar, the Wonder Woman with blue blooded horses. Tis treats the rest silently, quietly, with none of the fire resting beneath. She imperiously treats them as beneath her notice. Kylie alone is allowed on the ride of life, exempt from any frightful pranks the filly might play. Tis is unpredictable in her quiet nature, but unlike her dam she is not moody. You will not find a temperamental mare in this one, only a thinker of unquestioned leadership with the will and power to back it up.
